WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?
Implants are metallic elements that are surgically located in the maxillary bones, under the gums. Once implanted in the selected place, the dentist can place on them the crowns or fixed bridges that will replace the missing teeth. After a short period the implant fuses with the mandibular bone, osseointegrates, providing a stable support for artificial teeth. The prostheses and the bridges placed on the implants do not slide or move in the mouth, which is an especially important advantage for chewing and speech. This adaptation helps make prostheses and bridges (as well as individual crowns placed on implants) feel more natural than conventional ones.
